Should You Pull?YES

Lan Yan is a niche Anemo Support; consider pulling only if you want this specific playstyle. Has one of the strongest Shields in the game, able to heal itself at Constellation 2. Keep in mind that short Shield duration has poor uptime in long rotations.

Lan Yan is a 4-Star Anemo Shielder in Genshin Impact who converts her Shield into Hydro, Pyro, Cryo or Electro depending on what reactions are taking place.

Strengths

  • Has one of the strongest Shields in the game, able to heal itself at Constellation 2.
  • Has access to Viridescent Venerer for buffing.
  • Can use a variety of good buffing weapons like Angelos' Heptades, Starcaller's Watch and Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers.

Weaknesses

  • Short Shield duration has poor uptime in long rotations.
  • Can sometimes be difficult to Swirl the right Element for your Main DPS to gain the benefits of VV.
  • Has very little buffing in her kit, resulting in her not being the best unit for any DPS's team.
  • Newer units like Nicole and Ineffa provide strong shields alongside great offensive utility, leaving little reason to use Lan Yan instead.

2pcWhen a nearby party member triggers a Nightsoul Burst, the equipping character regenerates 6 Elemental Energy.
4pcAfter the equipping character triggers a reaction related to their Elemental Type, all nearby party members gain a 12% Elemental DMG Bonus for the Elemental Types involved in the elemental reaction for 15s. If the equipping character is in the Nightsoul's Blessing state when triggering this effect, all nearby party members gain an additional 28% Elemental DMG Bonus for the Elemental Types involved in the elemental reaction for 20s. The equipping character can trigger this effect while off-field, and the DMG bonus from Artifact Sets with the same name do not stack.
If using Lan Yan in a team where Viridescent Venerer is of no use, Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City is a decent support set she can use instead. She can't provide the full 40 DMG %, but the 12% is still of use.

Talents & Constellations

Talents

Normal AttackBlack Pheasant Strides on Water

Wields her Feathermoon Rings to perform up to 4 attacks, dealing Anemo DMG.

Normal Attack
Elemental SkillSwallow-Wisp Pinion Dance

Summoning forth the Swallow-Wisp Shield, a secret art passed down across generations, Lan Yan dashes forward and, upon making contact with her target, will leap back into the air. The Swallow-Wisp Shield's DMG absorption scales based on her ATK, and has a 250% absorption efficiency against Anemo DMG. While in mid-air due to the effects of her Elemental Skill: Swallow-Wisp Pinion Dance, pressing her Elemental Skill again or pressing Normal Attack will cause Lan Yan to hurl her Feathermoon Rings at an opponent, and they will spin between nearby opponents twice upon hit, dealing Anemo DMG. Holding the Skill will cause it to behave differently. Hold Enter Aiming Mode to adjust the dash direction. "The clouds cut the lunar light, like shadows silver gracing one's sight."

Elemental Skill
Elemental BurstLustrous Moonrise

Lan Yan creates a Feathermoon Swallow Array, pulling in nearby opponents and objects and dealing multiple instances of AoE Anemo DMG. Strictly speaking, with only Lan Yan herself present, it cannot properly be called an "array." However, if her Rattan Figures are brought into the picture, she can sort of fulfill the requirements... Probably.

Elemental Burst
1st Ascension PassiveFour Sealing Divination Charms

When the dash from the Elemental Skill Swallow-Wisp Pinion Dance hits a target, if it interacts with Hydro/Pyro/Cryo/Electro, the Swallow-Wisp Shield will undergo Elemental Absorption, with the converted shield absorbing DMG from the corresponding element with 250% efficiency. Additionally, if this use of Swallow-Wisp Pinion Dance causes the Swallow-Wisp Shield to undergo Elemental Absorption, the Feathermoon Rings that Lan Yan throws at her foes additionally deal Elemental DMG equal to 50% of the original in the corresponding Elemental Type. This DMG is considered Elemental Skill DMG.

Passive
4th Ascension PassiveSkyfeather Evil-Subduing Charm

The Elemental Skill Swallow-Wisp Pinion Dance and the Elemental Burst Lustrous Moonrise deal increased DMG equal to 309% and 774% of Lan Yan's Elemental Mastery respectively.
