Tartaglia (Childe) is the premier on-field Hydro DPS. His Melee Stance converts his attacks into rapid Hydro Normal and Charged Attacks, enabling explosive Vaporize damage with Pyro supports. He is the cornerstone of 'International' teams and one of the most damage-efficient on-field Hydro carries in the game.

Tartaglia, or Childe, is a 5-star Hydro Bow character with an alternate stance (Melee Stance) where he wields two Hydro daggers. Childe can enable other units to do more damage with his high Hydro application and fast attacks in his Melee Stance, whilst also providing significant damage himself.

Strengths

  • Best on-field Hydro application in the game — enables team-wide Vaporize non-stop
  • Elemental Burst resets Skill CD on hit in Ranged Stance, enabling fast rotations
  • Riptide status propagates AoE Hydro DMG independently of his attacks
  • Works in Freeze, Vaporize, and Electro-Charged teams with equal effectiveness
  • High personal damage ceiling with dedicated investment

Weaknesses

  • Elemental Skill has a long cooldown if he stays in Melee Stance too long
  • Rotation timing is strict — requires practice to optimize Burst reset windows
  • Energy-hungry Burst (60 cost); needs supports that funnel particles or high ER
  • Competition from newer Hydro DPS characters in some team archetypes

Talent Priority

1
Normal AttackPriority: Max (10)

Melee Stance Normal Attacks are his primary DPS. Level this first.

2
Elemental BurstPriority: 8–10

Burst deals significant AoE Hydro DMG and resets Skill CD. High priority.

3
Elemental SkillPriority: 6–8

Skill levels improve Melee Stance Riptide DMG and Burst DMG on Riptide-marked targets.

International (with Xiangling + Bennett)

Deploy Bennett Burst → Kazuha Burst → Xiangling Burst → Childe Skill (Melee Stance 8–12s) → Childe Ranged Burst (resets Skill) → repeat. Tight rotation rewards practice.

~120–130% ER
Freeze (with Ayaka)

Childe opens with Ranged Burst to apply Riptide → Skill to Melee Stance → Ayaka Burst during freeze window → Shenhe buff → repeat. Keep enemies frozen for Blizzard Strayer CRIT bonus.

~110–120% ER
Electro-Charged (with Fischl/Beidou)

Deploy Fischl (Oz) and Beidou Burst → Childe Melee Stance for continuous Electro-Charged procs → Ranged Burst for reset. Less rotation-strict than International.

~110–130% ER

Prioritize staying in Melee Stance for ~8–12s per rotation. Use Ranged Burst before re-entering Melee Stance to reset Skill CD. Support bursts should be deployed during Childe's Melee window for maximum Vaporize triggers.

Talents & Constellations

Talents

In Ranged Stance: standard 6-hit Bow combo. In Melee Stance: 6-hit rapid melee chain dealing Hydro DMG on every hit with exceptional application speed. The core of his damage.

Hydro DMGMelee StanceRanged Stance
Elemental SkillFoul Legacy: Raging Tide

Activates Melee Stance, converting Normal and Charged Attacks to Hydro DMG. Generates Riptide on CRIT hits. Duration ends after 30s max or manually by pressing Skill again, triggering Riptide Slash on all Riptide-afflicted enemies. Cooldown scales with time spent in Melee Stance.

Melee StanceHydro InfusionRiptideDuration
Elemental BurstHavoc: Obliteration

Ranged Stance: deals massive AoE Hydro DMG and applies Riptide to hit enemies. Melee Stance: deals Hydro DMG and clears Riptide for bonus damage. Crucially, Ranged Stance Burst resets the Skill cooldown on hit — enabling back-to-back Melee Stance windows.

While in Melee Stance, CRIT hits apply Riptide to enemies for 10 seconds. This dramatically increases Riptide uptime and the frequency of explosive Riptide Slash AoE procs during Melee Stance.

C6
C1Foul Legacy: Tide Withholder

Reduces Melee Stance cooldown by 20%. More frequent Melee Stance windows mean more on-field Hydro application and higher DPS uptime.

Is it worth getting?

Nice QoL improvement. Reduces the downtime between Melee Stance phases. Worth having if you pull multiple copies.

C2Foul Legacy: Understream

Each Riptide Slash generates 4 Energy for Tartaglia. Significantly reduces ER requirements and improves Burst uptime.

Is it worth getting?

Meaningful energy reduction — lowers ER threshold noticeably. Good constellation.

C3Abyssal Mayhem: Vortex of Turmoil

Increases Melee Stance Riptide Slash DMG. Small but consistent DPS increase.

Is it worth getting?

Incremental improvement. Not a reason to pull on its own.

C4Abyssal Mayhem: Hydrospout

Every 4 seconds during Melee Stance, if a Riptide enemy is hit, triggers Riptide Blast. Also reduces enemy Hydro RES by 20%, a significant team-wide Hydro DMG increase.

Is it worth getting?

Strong constellation. The Hydro RES shred is excellent for Vaporize and Freeze teams. One of his best constellations.

C5Havoc: Formless Blade

Increases Burst DMG scaling. Decent boost to his rotation damage.

Is it worth getting?

Solid incremental gain for his Burst damage.

C6Havoc: AnnihilationPull Target

Melee Stance Burst resets Skill CD (mirrors Ranged Burst behavior). Additionally grants team ER and personal Hydro DMG Bonus stacks on hit. Dramatically improves rotation flexibility and damage ceiling.

Is it worth getting?

Game-changing. Both Burst modes now reset Skill CD, making rotation management far more flexible. Substantial personal DPS increase. Pull for if you love Childe.

C0 Tartaglia is fully competitive in International and Freeze teams. No constellations are required to perform his core role.
