- You want a support who contributes significant DMG Bonus on top of resistance shred.
- You need light healing from your support slot.
Pick Zhongli if…
- You run a team with no Natlan characters and want the strongest universal shielder.
- You need near-unbreakable shields — nothing approaches Zhongli's shielding reliability.
- Your carry needs to hold a specific HP threshold (Hu Tao, Beidou) — Zhongli's shield is the safest way.
Xilonen is the stronger meta pick in Natlan-heavy teams — she contributes more damage through her DMG Bonus passive and Nightsoul resonance than Zhongli's pure utility. Outside Natlan teams, Zhongli is still the gold-standard shielder: his near-unbreakable shield and universal 20% resistance shred work in any comp and protect any carry. If you have a Natlan roster, prioritise Xilonen. If you don't, Zhongli remains one of the most impactful supports in the game.

- Elemental Burst can result in a DPS loss due to its long animation.
- Low energy generation.
Shared Team Members
With Xilonen
Xilonen + Navia forms a Geo Resonance pair. Xilonen's shred and DMG Bonus amplify Navia's Crystallize hits, and both Geo characters enable the 15% DMG Bonus from Geo resonance.
With Zhongli
Zhongli + Navia is the classic pairing. Zhongli's shred stacks with Navia's Crystallize stacks, his shield lets her safely generate shards, and Geo Resonance gives both a 15% DMG Bonus.
With Xilonen
Xilonen provides Hydro resistance shred (via elemental absorption) and DMG Bonus for Neuvillette. Less critical than for Natlan carries, but still meaningful in a Neuvillette + Xilonen team.
With Zhongli
Zhongli's shield is very high priority for Neuvillette. It prevents Charged Attack interruptions, which would otherwise cost significant DPS. His shred also applies universally to Hydro damage.
